The Journey
Throughout my career, I’ve been fascinated by how research can help improve communities. Yet for many years, the connection between research and real-world impact wasn’t always clear.
That perspective changed when I joined the Human Environments Analysis Laboratory (HEAL) at Western University. For more than a decade, I worked alongside municipalities, public health agencies, school boards, and community organizations to understand how evidence could be used to improve programs, inform policy, and strengthen communities. Through projects such as ACT-i-Pass, School Travel Planning, SmartAPPetite, Harvest Bucks, and the Healthy Kids Community Challenge, I saw firsthand how research and evaluation could be transformed into meaningful community impact.
Over time, my work expanded beyond traditional research to include policy development, planning support, accessibility analysis, and GIS-based decision-making. These experiences reinforced a lesson that continues to guide my work today: research is most valuable when it helps organizations make better decisions and create positive change.
When I joined Fanshawe College as a faculty member, I knew I wanted to continue supporting organizations beyond the classroom. Healthy Way Consulting was created to carry that work forward, helping organizations turn data into action and create healthier, more equitable communities.
What We Do Today
Today, Healthy Way Consulting supports non-profit organizations, municipalities, public health agencies, educational institutions, and community partners through research, evaluation, and spatial analysis.
Our work is built on a simple idea: strong decisions require strong evidence. Whether an organization is evaluating a program, identifying community needs, analyzing geographic patterns, or planning for the future, we help provide the insights needed to support meaningful action.
Our services include:
- Research & Evaluation – Understanding what works and measuring impact.
- Mapping & Spatial Analysis – Using GIS to explore accessibility, service delivery, and community needs.
- Community Needs Assessments – Identifying priorities, gaps, and opportunities.
- Data Analysis & Insights – Turning complex information into actionable evidence.
- Strategic Planning Support – Helping organizations move from evidence to action.
Today, that same principle that inspired the creation of Healthy Way Consulting continues to guide our work: helping organizations use evidence to create healthier, more equitable, and more resilient communities.
A New Chapter for Healthy Way Consulting
Like many small businesses, Healthy Way Consulting has evolved over time. While the business has remained active, the last few years have been focused on balancing consulting work with teaching, community involvement, and family life. Throughout that time, one belief has remained constant: research creates the greatest value when it helps organizations make better decisions and create meaningful change in their communities.
This website refresh represents more than a new look. It marks the beginning of a new chapter for Healthy Way Consulting. The updated website better reflects who we are today, the services we provide, and the experience gained through nearly two decades of working alongside municipalities, public health agencies, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and community partners.
Today, Healthy Way Consulting supports organizations through research, evaluation, community needs assessments, data analysis, strategic planning, and spatial analysis. Whether you’re evaluating a program, identifying community needs, understanding geographic patterns in your data, or planning for the future, our goal is simple: helping organizations turn data into action and evidence into impact.
The website also introduces our new Insights section, where I’ll be sharing articles, case studies, and practical ideas related to research, evaluation, GIS, planning, and community development. My hope is that these resources help organizations build their capacity and discover new ways to create positive community change.
Most importantly, this new chapter is about reconnecting with organizations that are passionate about creating healthier and more equitable communities. If your organization is exploring a project, facing a challenge, or simply looking for a fresh perspective, I’d love the opportunity to start a conversation about how we can create a healthy way forward together.
Looking Forward
Communities today face complex challenges, and organizations are often asked to do more with limited resources. Whether you’re evaluating a program, identifying community needs, analyzing data, or planning for the future, strong decisions begin with strong evidence.
As Healthy Way Consulting enters this new chapter, I am excited to reconnect with organizations that are committed to creating healthier and more equitable communities. Through research, evaluation, and spatial analysis, my goal remains the same: helping organizations turn data into action and evidence into impact.
If you’re exploring a project, facing a challenge, or simply looking for a fresh perspective, I invite you to explore the website, browse the Research & Insights section, or book a consultation. I look forward to learning more about your work and discussing how we can create a healthy way forward together.
