Creating a Healthy Way Forward
with Healthy Way Consulting
Healthy Way Consulting is a social enterprise based in London, Ontario, dedicated to helping organizations create healthier and more equitable communities through research, evaluation, and spatial analysis.
Our mission is to help organizations make evidence-based decisions that lead to meaningful community impact.
Our Story
For much of my career, I have been an academic. My journey began with studies in geography, GIS, and spatial analysis, eventually leading to a Master’s degree, a PhD in Geography, and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship. Throughout those years, I was passionate about research and learning, but much of the work focused on advancing academic knowledge. While the research often had implications for society, the connection between research and real-world impact was not always visible.
That changed when I joined the Human Environments Analysis Laboratory (HEAL) at Western University. The mission of the lab was simple but powerful: to create, share, and mobilize knowledge that helps build healthy, thriving communities. Over the next decade, I had the opportunity to work alongside researchers, community organizations, municipalities, public health agencies, and school boards to understand how research could be used to create meaningful change.
Many of the projects I worked on focused on turning evidence into action. Through collaborations with the Child & Youth Network and other community partners, I contributed to initiatives such as Harvest Bucks, ACT-i-Pass, School Travel Planning, SmartAPPetite, and the Healthy Kids Community Challenge. These projects demonstrated how research, evaluation, and community engagement could influence programs, policies, and behaviours that improve quality of life.
At the same time, I worked with organizations such as the City of London, Middlesex-London Health Unit, Middlesex County, Southwestern Public Health, school boards, and Green Communities Canada on projects that informed policy and planning decisions. Whether reviewing official plans, assessing accessibility, evaluating programs, or developing recommendations for active transportation policies, I saw firsthand how evidence-based decision-making could have lasting impacts at both the local and regional levels.
When I accepted a faculty position at Fanshawe College, I knew I wanted to continue this work. Teaching gave me the opportunity to help develop the next generation of planners, researchers, and GIS professionals, but I also wanted to remain actively involved in creating positive change within our communities.
That led to the creation of Healthy Way Consulting.
Healthy Way Consulting was founded as a social enterprise with a simple goal: helping organizations turn data into action. Through research, evaluation, and spatial analysis, we support non-profit organizations, municipalities, public health agencies, educational institutions, and community partners in making evidence-based decisions that create healthier and more equitable communities.

What Makes Healthy Way Consulting Different?
Healthy Way Consulting was built on the belief that research should create real-world impact. While many consulting firms focus on either research, evaluation, or mapping, our approach combines all three to help organizations better understand their communities, make informed decisions, and create meaningful change.
Our work is informed by nearly two decades of experience spanning academia, public health, municipal government, education, and community-based research. We understand both the rigor required to produce quality evidence and the practical realities organizations face when implementing change.
Our experience working directly with municipalities, public health agencies, school boards, non-profit organizations, and community partners allows us to bridge the gap between academic research and practical implementation. Rather than simply producing reports, we work with organizations to ensure evidence can be translated into meaningful actions, policies, programs, and planning decisions.
This unique combination of research expertise, evaluation experience, and spatial analysis skills allows us to move beyond collecting data and focus on helping organizations turn information into action.
